Thermark Marking Application

Laser Marking Application:

The parts were marked using a 20 watt q-switched ytterbium fiber laser with 160 mm focal length lens. The samples were sprayed with TherMark to create brightly contrasting marks. The parts were marked using approximately 18 watts of power, with a frequency of 80kHz, and at a speed of 4 inches per second. The resulting cycle time was 32.89 seconds.

Laser Marking Wood

Laser Marking Application:
Laser marking of wooden door frames using a CO2 laser. Marked text was reorganized into 2 lines, so it could fit into single working field of the recommended system (which is about 200x200mm). Other systems could be design with a larger marking area. All four different wood parts were marked with the same parameters and produced excellent marks.

Laser Marking Plastic

Laser Marking Application:
The part was marked with a 10 watt q-switched ytterbium fiber laser and 160 mm focal length lens. The 160mm focal length lens has a working distance of 176mm from lens to part. The submitted bottle cap was scanned and then imported in to laser marking software. The part was then surface marked to create bright contrast similar to the sample part sent in. The cycle time for the bottle cap was 4.05 seconds.

Laser Marking UID's

Laser Marking Application:
UID marking was done with a 20 Watt Fiber Laser Marking System using a 160 mm lens. The part was marked with multiple etched marks of 2D codes and squares. The cycle time for the 2D code was 3.28 seconds. Two different squares were marked on the part with different cycle times. The light squares had cycle times of 6.86 seconds. The dark squares had cycle times of 13.89 seconds. The 2D code was readable at our application laboratory. The best readable part was the dark 2D code on the light square.

The parts were laser marked using a 20 watt q-switched ytterbium fiber laser with 160 mm focal length lens. The parts were surface marked to create brightly contrasting marks. The parts were marked using various parameters, resulting in various cycle times and various darknesses and qualities of marks on the samples.

CASE STUDY
Everything’s better with cheese…and the Fantom F-100 CO2 Laser
Individual serving packets, such as those used for catsup or other condiments in fast-food and other restaurants, usually feature a small cut for ease of opening. Laser Photonics was approached by a customer to use one of our systems to make the ‘easy opening cut’ on their individual serving packets of cheese. Once the customers’ samples arrived at our facility, our applications engineers went to work. Using the Fantom F-100 CO2 laser, the samples were processed with 100w CO2 laser (10.6um) through a 300mm focal lens. The mark was completed at the customers’ specification of 2.5mm long and was completed in one pass in just .04 seconds.

In order to process aluminum and stainless steel gun parts, Laser Photonics utilizes the Fiber Tower Mega Center. The gun parts are processed using a pulsed fiber laser through a 160mm F-theta Lens. Setting the power at 98% for the aluminum marking and 100% for the stainless, both processes were run at a frequency of 20kHz, and a speed of 10 inches per second. Total time to complete the aluminum was 119 seconds in four passes. Total time to complete the stainless was 452 seconds in four passes.

Laser Photonics Announces New Solution for Label

The FiberTower XP equipped with an auto label feeder option

Lake Mary, FL., Laser Photonics, the industry leader in developing high-tech fiber and CO₂ laser systems for marking, cutting and engraving applications, received a contract from one of the most prominent aerospace LCD screen manufacturers. This highly sought after deal is the first for Laser Photonics and its newly developed auto label feeder option.
The Laser Photonics FiberTower XP equipped with an auto label feeder option was the chosen solution after a highly competitive and rigorous selection process. Laser Photonics’ experience with fiber and CO2 lasers, developing key solutions to meet manufacturers’ needs, and being a United States based company were major factors in the decision.

The solution features the FiberTower XP, the most advanced laser marking system in the industry. It provides the ability to operate as a standalone unit or as part of an in-line system, incorporates a 20 watt continuous wave laser, industrial PC controller, power supply, marking software, a laser safety enclosure and the auto label feeder option. The auto label feeder option can be removed and the system can be used for standard direct part marking.

Previous to the FiberTower XP with the auto label feeder option, marking UID data labels on Tesa tape involved manual labor. The labels were marked only after they were manually cut into four inch strips and then manually fed into the machine. The auto label feeder option on the FiberTower XP eliminates the need for any manual processing. To operate the FiberTower XP, a roll of labels is loaded, automatically indexed to the first marking area where the required mark is made. The labels perimeter is also cut using the laser, thus enabling an easy peel and stick application. The system repeats the indexing and marking until the job is complete.

Incorporating Tesa tape as the marking material enables for a durable, chemical and weather resistant marking application. Tesa labels can be marked elsewhere and then easily brought into the field to be applied to equipment, parts or, other items needing UID data labels, bar codes, part numbers, logos, serial codes, etc.
